The Ultimate 2026 Father’s Day Lawn Equipment Guide

Finding the perfect present for Dad can be tough, especially if he insists he already has everything. You’re probably looking for something he’ll actually use instead of another tie that sits in the closet. What about outdoor power equipment?

Whether your dad has a small neighborhood backyard or a huge acreage, fancy new toys will make his yard work faster and more fun. To help you find the best Father’s Day lawn equipment, we sat down with Jim Richardson, Sales Lead at Ty’s Outdoor Power in Gretna. Jim shared his expert insights on exactly what dads are looking for this spring.

Best Father’s Day Gifts Under $200 / $500 / $500+

You don’t need an unlimited wallet to find a great gift. We broke down the best options across different budgets to help you find the perfect match.

Under $200

If you need a quick, budget-friendly option, handheld tools are the way to go.

“There’s this little pruner from Stihl called the GTA 26. It’s a full kit, right at $199.99. That’s a fantastic option for a smash and grab,” Jim says. “You don’t want to get out a 16-inch chainsaw just to cut that branch that fell out of the tree.”

Under $500

Moving up to the $200–$500 range opens the door to high-quality residential handhelds. This includes introductory chainsaws, trimmers, and leaf blowers from top brands.

“A great gateway gift would be Stihl or DeWalt, a handheld tool of some sort,” Jim explains. “They’re getting a good quality piece of equipment literally in their hands.”

$500 and Beyond

When your budget is past $500, you have access to major upgrades from high-end chainsaws to premium commercial lawn mowers.

“At that point, the sky’s the limit,” Jim notes. “He can go all the way up to over four grand and get himself into a new Hustler Zero turn. So it just all depends on what information we can try to get out of the buyer for dad.”

Battery vs. Gas: What to Buy in 2026

Battery power has come a long way and is now highly reliable. “On residential suburban things like that, the battery power is really coming along, and it’s just as good as the engine counterpart,” Jim shares.

However, if your dad maintains a larger property, traditional gas engines might still be the smarter choice. “When you get the mid-size to bigger acreages and things like that, I, myself, still lean them towards having that engine instead of a battery setup,” Jim advises. “They’re going to be going through a lot more batteries because they’re just doing heavier work.”

Gifts Dads Don’t Know They Want

Sometimes the best outdoor power equipment gifts for Dad aren’t new machines at all. Instead, accessories for equipment he already owns can make a massive difference. If your dad recently purchased a riding mower, think about attachments that make his routine easier.

“I’ve seen it before where we might have a gentleman buy a zero-term mower,” Jim recalls. “And then the wife comes in, or daughter or son, and he really wanted that mulch kit… or a bagger, or maybe an accessory for a mower he previously purchased.”

How to Pick the Right Outdoor Power Equipment as a Gift

Walking into a showroom full of tools can feel overwhelming. To narrow down the best choices, Jim and our team at Ty’s ask a few simple qualifying questions:

  • Does he already own outdoor power equipment?
  • What specific tasks does he need help with (trimming, mowing, pruning)?
  • Does he prefer a certain battery brand, like DeWalt, to match tools he already owns?
  • What is his mechanical comfort level?

Matching the tool to his mechanical skill is everything. Gas engines require mixing fuel and proper starting procedures, which isn’t for everyone. “You put a battery in and slam and go away,” Jim points out. Battery tools eliminate the hassle of chokes and pull cords, making them incredibly user-friendly.

Shop Before It Sells Out: Ty’s Outdoor Power Gretna Tips

Spring is our busiest season, and inventory moves quickly. If you want to find the perfect gift, it pays to shop early. “If [you’re] in the market for residential zero turn… the sooner the better,” Jim warns. “I just don’t want to risk somebody wanting a particular deck size or model, and the manufacturer is trying to get them out of the production line, which delays delivery by a couple of weeks.”

At Ty’s Outdoor Power, we can also service equipment. Every new machine leaves our Gretna shop fully gassed up, oiled, and ready to work. Plus, we offer a convenient 30–35 mile delivery radius across the Omaha metro, including Elkhorn, Papillion, and Bellevue.

Skip the box store hassle and give Dad a gift he’ll love. Stop by our Gretna showroom today, and our expert team will help you find exactly what he needs.
